June 05 Amazing GracePossibly some of the best lyrics ever written...
That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found Was blind, but now I see. And Grace my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear The hour I first believed. I have already come. 'Tis Grace hath brought me safe thus far And Grace will lead me home. His Word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures. Bright shining as the sun, We've no less days to sing God's praise Than when we'd first begun. A NEW ENGLISH LANGUAGEOld but funny... May 06 Bible SoundtrackI wonder, if some of our finest Biblical characters were to club together and produce an album of cover hits, whether it might look something like this?:
1. Goliath - 'Another One Bites the Dust'
2. Noah - 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' 3. Samson - 'My My My Delilah' 4. Judas - 'My Way' 5. Jude - 'Hey Jude' 6. Nehemiah - 'Another Brick In the Wall' 7. Job - 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' 8. Paul - 'Please Release Me' 9. Joshua - 'Good Vibrations' 10. Moses - 'We're All Going On A Summer Holiday' 11. Bonus Track - 'Angels' (Courtesy of www.blogalmighty.co.uk. Incidentally, this album is for sale on their website, although currently out of stock) April 14 Rev in the makingI've been recommended for training for ordained ministry!!
It's been a long 2 years going through the process and I'm so relieved to have a decision, but it's also been a time when I've learned so much about God and my own faith. Apologies if I've not managed to tell you in person yet - there seem to be so many people to get round and my head's spinning with it all!
But, if I've not said it to you - thank you so so much for ALL your prayers and support! The help that people have given me has been invaluable, and without it I don't think I'd be sane now!
Next step? Find a job in Manchester for a year before starting training in 2007. Watch this space... April 11 Courtesy of my little brother...David Beckham decides to go horse riding.
Although he's had no previous experience, he skilfully mounts the horse and appears in complete command of the situation as the horse gallops along at a steady pace whilst Victoria admiringly watches her husband.
After a short time David becomes a little casual and he begins to lose his grip in the saddle.
He panics, grabs the horse around the neck and is shouting for it to stop.
Victoria starts to scream and shout for someone to help her husband as David has by this time slipped completely out of the saddle and is only saved from hitting the ground by the fact that he still has a grip
on the horse's neck. David decides that his best chance is to leap away from the horse, but his foot has become entangled in one of the stirrups.
As the horse gallops along David's head is banging on the ground and he is slipping into unconsciousness.
Victoria is now frantic and screams and screams for help!!
Hearing her screams, the Tesco Security Guard comes out of the store and unplugs the horse. The "D" word...It's actually going really well. I did more work than I thought last term which is helping this week as I try and put together a first draft. But. After spending 3 months on exactly HOW Hardy was influenced by Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, I now have to address the question of WHY he chose to be. Honestly, it's like climbing Everest, thinking you've seen the summit, and then realising that what you thought is the summit is actually just a big cloud and you have to climb through that cloud and keep searching for the summit.
Actually, it's nowhere near that bad. And I am enjoying it. I am. But roll on Easter! April 06 Ordinand Idol!!The last 3 days have flown by - thanks to all for your prayers and support leading up to everything! It's a bit surreal to be back in the real world though, and felt very much like we were on some Big Brother-esque program! So, maybe a bit of an artificial atmosphere, but a swift trip by some of us down to the pub did help to lighten the mood. Watch this space for news of the outcome, although they say it may take up to 2 weeks now. March 29 JokeShamelessly pinched from Ship-of-Fools:
St Peter decides to take the day off to go fishing, so Jesus offers to keep an eye on the Pearly Gates. He is not sure what to do, so Peter tells him to find out a bit about people as they arrive in Heaven, and this will help him decide if he can let them in. After a while, Jesus sees a little old man with white hair approaching who looks very, very familiar. He asks the old man to tell him about himself. The old man says, "I had a very sad life. I was a carpenter and had a son who I lost at a relatively young age, and although he was not my natural child, I loved him dearly." Jesus welled up with emotion. He threw his arms around the old man and cried, "Daddy!" The old man replied, "Pinocchio?" March 27 The favoured oneOk, I'm bored, so I'm venturing into blogging "proper". And I've gotta beat Phil's high standard of blogging. As the eldest and favourite Joyce child I must fight to keep my honour!
Have spent the last 2 hours rearranging the furniture in my room (not a very unusual thing for me to do, but it's been a while...). Anyway, don't like the new layout. So think I'm gonna move it all back. Tomorrow maybe.
Found God's blog today - www.blogalmighty.co.uk. Possibly slightly blasphemous? I like it though. And if you read it carefully enough, it is quite theological in places. (ok, so only in SOME places!).
Right. Fun over. Bedtime. February 23 Ten reasons why MEN should not become ordained ministers! This is in jest folks, please don't take offence..! Although I guess I'm trying to be provocative too...
1. Men are too emotional to be vicars. Their conduct at football matches proves this.
2. A man's place is in the army, not in the church.
3. Some men are so handsome that they would distract women worshippers.
4. Their physical build indicates that men are more suited to tasks such as chopping down trees and wrestling mountain lions.
5. In the New Testament, the person who betrayed Jesus was a MAN.
6. Men are overly prone to violence. They settle disputes by fighting. Thus they would be dangerously unstable in a leadership role.
7. Man was created before woman, obviously as a prototype. Thus they represent an experiement rather than the crowning acheivement of creation.
8. To be a vicar is to take on a nurturing role, which is traditionally the woman's role.
9. Men can still do church activities without being ordained, e.g. clearing church paths, repairing the roof, maybe even leading the singing on Father's Day.
10. No woman in a congregation is going to respect a man who wears a skirt! |
